Project Meeting - Madrid

1. What were the key topics discussed in the recent HerForm project meeting, and how do they relate to supporting female athletes in a high-performance environment?

The HerForm project meeting in May was a fantastic opportunity to share the Work Package plan that had been developed by the WP3 lead Wolfgang Stockinger from Twin and Pam Gilpin and Finola Roache at Rugby Players Ireland. The WP3 team had been armed with the excellent research conducted by Babett and her team at the German Sports University. The creation of the content for the HerForm platform was the largest body of work during the project so we needed to clearly outline what was required from each project partner. We also wanted to give everyone an opportunity to question and give suggestions on how the plan could be improved.

2. What were the main outcomes and decisions made during the project meeting, and how will these outcomes contribute to the development of the project?

Over the two days we discussed a huge amount. The main two outcomes were:

Content Tone: There was a long discussion on the tone that the HerForm content should take. We want this program to be used by athletes who have support structures around them (such as Player Development Managers) as well as athletes who are on their own when it comes to Personal Development. This discussion and final decision was really important as it ensured all content had the same athlete persona in mind.

Peer-to-Peer Content: We were lucky enough to be joined by a German Basketball player during our Work Package 2 meeting in Cologne. All project partners were blown away by her story and how she approached personal development. We discussed how best to bring more athletes into the HerForm content and agreed to each partner including an Athlete Interview into their module creation. This decision ensures the HerForm platform will remain athlete centric, with the voice of female athletes at the heart of everything we do.

3. Can you describe any specific strategies or initiatives that were agreed upon during the meeting to enhance the performance and well-being of female athletes?

The majority of project partners work with athletes on their personal development daily. Therefore there was a tendency to fall into a trap of HerForm’s micro-learning piece becoming a ‘train the trainer’ piece. I believe these discussions, which kept us focused on the female athlete as opposed to her support worker will result in a program that is truly focused on female athletes.

4. How did the project meeting actively facilitate the collaboration and communication among the partner organisations?

We are very lucky that all members of the HerForm team are fully committed to the project and bring energy and enthusiasm to all meetings. We meet regularly via Zoom but the quality of the collaboration that comes with in-person meetings cannot be matched.

5. How do the discussions and outcomes from the latest meeting align with the overall goals of the HerForm project, and what steps are planned next to ensure continued progress?

After the meeting in Madrid, the Work Package 3 lead and co-lead could finalise the guidelines for all partners when it came to content creation. Each partner also agreed on the timelines moving forward. Bi-monthly meetings were agreed as this is a busy time for the project!
