Project Meeting - Cologne, October 2023.

What were the key topics discussed in the recent HerForm project meeting, and how do they relate to supporting female athletes in a high-performance environment?

In the Cologne meeting the preliminary results from the focus groups were presented. The main female needs have been Health, Work-Life Balance, Self Marketing, Managing Professional Relationships and Finance. Afterwards ideas for the creation of digital hubs were discussed. The professional female basketball player Lisa Koop was invited for special support. She has more than 15 years of experience in international elite sports in different countries. As a PhD candidate at the German Sport University Cologne and driven by her passion for women’s basketball, she always intended to advance professionalism in women’s sport in the future. This ambition aligns perfectly with the overarching goals of our project HerForm. At the meeting, she enriched the discussion with her personal experiences and insights . These underline how important it is to constantly checking in with athletes and why this project can be very important for female athletes and their specific needs, which are often not supported by the system.

What were the main outcomes and decisions made during the project meeting, and how will these outcomes contribute to the development of the project?

Based on the main aspects of the different focus groups, the 5 most important aspects for the next work package were discussion. As another 3 focus groups will be realized, agreed to focus on these topics primarily.
Additionally, tools like digital training platforms should be implemented, based on the results of the questionnaire, with five topics which can make the most difference. These tools should create a safe space for personal development, where female athletes can explore and enhance their performance.

Can you describe any specific strategies or initiatives that were agreed upon during the meeting to enhance the performance and well-being of female athletes?

As previously outlined, the five main umbrella topics are Health, Work-Life Balance, Self-Marketing, Managing Professional Relationships, and Finance. These preliminary results will serve as evidence base for the subsequent development of the next WP. All partners involved in the HerForm project recognized the significance of these topics for female athletes. In particular, the team responsible for the upcoming working phase gathered all the information discussed during the meeting to develop online working tools informed by the findings from the previous scientific research phase.

How did the project meeting actively facilitate the collaboration and communication among the partner organisations?

Meeting in person allowed for extensive discussions and discursive validation of the interpretation of the collected data.
Results and data were presented and provided, so everyone is on the same page and knows which topics are in the center of interest. Furthermore, the meeting was supported by the athlete Lisa Koop, as considered before, which remains that the athletes and their needs are the most important and all focus groups work together to support them in the most positive ways.

How do the discussions and outcomes from the latest meeting align with the overall goals of the HerForm project, and what steps are planned next to ensure continued progress?

The meeting provided a great exchange and discussion about the preliminary results between the focus groups, to get to know the main needs of female athletes in order to develop customized online tools that support female athletes. Next steps will be including the results from the focus groups from Sweden and Spain to add and complete the topics, which are most important. Besides writing the research finding report will be a task to compress and structure the findings to keep the progress smooth and transparent.
